E.C.H.O. TourismCome explore the Ecology, Culture, Heritage, and Outdoors of Volusia County! |
Some people might wonder why anyone would live in southeast Volusia County,
but thats just because they haven't been there. The seaside city of New Smyrna
Beach and the growing riverfront city of Edgewater are the principal
municipalities in southeast Volusia. Located in one of the most desirable areas
of Florida, well north of the congested urban sprawl of south Florida, southeast
Volusia boasts beautiful white sand beaches and a maze of creeks and backwaters
along the famous Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon. The inshore waters in
southeast Volusia, home of the Canaveral National Seashore Park, produce more
sea trout and redfish than anywhere in Florida. Ponce de Leon Inlet with its
picturesque 110 year old brick lighthouse provides ready access to the Atlantic
Ocean for those who want to get offshore to sail or fish. With a 50 mile wide
continental shelf, the waters off southeast Volusia are teeming with numerous
varieties of bottom fish and blue water fish. More than 30 golf courses are
located within a thirty minute drive from Massey RanchAirpark.
If a
quality lifestyle is a high priority, southeast Volusia offers much more than
natural beauty and outdoor recreation. New Smyrna Beach is one of the top cities
in Florida for art. Home of the Atlantic Center for the Arts, New Smyrna has
several art shows during the year, including the annual juried Images A Festival
of the Arts. Galleries include Arts on Douglas, Artist Workshop, Harris House
and the Little Theater which offers live performances most of the
year.
There is not a shortage of high quality educational facilities
within southeast Volusia. Both private and public schools from K-12 are locally
available. The south campus of Daytona Beach Community College is within a mile
of Massey Ranch Airpark with the main campus within twenty minutes. Embry-Riddle
Aeronautical University is located by Daytona Beach International Airport which
is also a short twenty minute drive. The highly renowned Stetson University in
Deland is about a half hour drive, and the University of Central Florida has a
campus in Daytona Beach.
The historic downtown and beach side business
district of New Smyrna recently has been revitalized with a major community
redevelopment program. High quality health care is provided by dedicated
physicians on staff at Bert Fish Medical Center. Having just completed a
$26 million renovation and expansion, Bert Fish Medical
Center provides a full array of health services including heart surgery,
oncology, cardiac rehab, MRI, and a multitude of other inpatient and outpatient
services. High quality affordable health care has always been a priority in
southeast Volusia.
In the middle of a triangle composed of Daytona Beach,
Orlando, and Cape Canaveral Space Coast, Massey Ranch Airpark is close enough to
commute but far enough to escape.
